🧪 Active Ingredient

• Lindane USP 1% w/v (also known as gamma‑benzene hexachloride) in an aqueous base

✅ Indications

• Prescribed for scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei infestations)

• Also used off-label for head lice

It is reserved for cases where first-line treatments (e.g. permethrin, benzyl benzoate, sulphur) are unsuitable or ineffective

🧴 Usage Instructions

1. Shake the bottle well.

2. Apply a thin layer from neck to soles of feet, paying attention to under nails, between toes, hands, feet, and interdigital areas

3. Leave on for 8–12 hours, then wash thoroughly

4. One application is usually curative; retreatment is not typically needed

For head lice: apply to hair for 4–8 hours, comb out lice and eggs afterward

⚠️ Precautions & Contraindications

• Avoid using immediately after bathing and on broken or inflamed skin

• Not recommended for:

  • Premature infants

  • Individuals with extensive dermatitis

  • Pregnant or lactating women

  • Persons with uncontrolled seizure disorders (risk of neurotoxicity)

  • Those under 50 kg, the elderly, or with other skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis)

• Avoid contact with eyes, face, mucous membranes; store below 30 °C

🧠 Side Effects

Common mild-to-moderate reactions include:

• Skin irritation, dryness, rash

• Itching, redness, burning sensation

Systemic effects (less common, neurologic):

• Drowsiness, headache, dizziness

• Tremors, numbness, convulsions (particularly if misused or overused)
